Tired Old Queen at the Movies' Office
Farewell CELESTE HOLM. I have always loved her final scene in “Gentlemen’s Agreement”, it won her an Oscar and her performance is subtle and so moving. She proposes to Gregory Peck in the most practical, sincere and loving way, only to lose him to the insipid character played by Dorothy McGuire. It was Hollywood’s way of slapping the wrist of the smart woman and keeping her in line. However, she won the award anyway, a consolation prize, because everyone knew he was an idiot not to have married her.
